NEXT GeodataSERVICE supplies current and official GIS data for all areas. The material serves as a planning and management basis, increasing yield reliability and quality with the objective of a sustainable, integrative and environmentally friendly agriculture.

The TalkingFields (TF) basic map is a recognised and powerful product for this purpose, especially also in direct comparison with other recognised measuring methods, e.g. soil inventory, conductivity measurements or yield mapping. The TF basic map is created by the geostatic analysis of satellite data over several years to exclude short-term effects of weather and different crop types. With the aid of statistics the TF basic map indicates persistent relative biomass differences, which are used as a basis for decisions on site-specific cultivation. The TF basic map can be used as the basis for prescription maps for sowing, fertilisation or even plant protection measures – reliably and over large areas.

The TF zone map is an extension of the TF basic map. The TF zone map combines similar growth areas to form digital zones which can be used to optimise the sampling strategy and for improved soil mapping. The zones are used as a basis for efficient and purposeful sampling.

The TF biomass map shows the entire above-ground dry biomass on the field at a specific time in t/ha. It is therefore a momentary snapshot. The information can be used to monitor the plant growth during the current vegetation period and allows the farmer to intervene if necessary.

The TF yield potential map indicates the expected yield potential of a specific crop type under ideal nutritional supply and takes into account the local prevailing soil and climate conditions without additional irrigation.

The TF yield potential map indicates the maximum yield a specific crop type can achieve at the observed location based on its specific properties (e.g. soil character and type) and given temperature, precipitation and radiation. The map provides absolute values in t/ha for the selected crop type. This makes it possible to compare all fields.

The TF yield forecast provides a detailed yield forecast two to four weeks before the desired harvest date. With integrated weather forecasts and long-term weather observations in the plant growth model the harvest yield can be estimated with sufficient accuracy before the harvest date. The method has been tested in trial series over several years and checked with comprehensive on-site measurements for the crop types wheat, corn and sugar beets.
